Two Old Bus Stops in Busanjingu Renovated as 'HUG Station' for Local Residents
Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation Donates 200 Million Won, Architects Shin Jooyoung and Hwang Hyunhye of Architecture Office MOC Donate Designs
The city of Busan and the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee (Executive Director Lee Sungho) have newly renovated two aging bus stops in Busan through the 'HUG Station' project.
'HUG Station' is a bus stop designed to suit the local area, people, and environment, tailored specifically for each region.
Through this project, the previously cramped bus stops were expanded in size to better accommodate the number of users. Individual seats were installed within the stops to ensure appropriate distance between users, enhancing privacy and convenience.
The bus stops were designed with an eco-friendly approach, preserving the existing trees and natural surroundings without causing any damage.
A bench was installed at the rear, providing a space for people to sit and rest, creating a relaxing spot within the city.
To improve safety, lighting was installed across the entire ceiling of the bus stops, brightening the previously dark surroundings at night.
The advertisement boards inside the bus stops will be used as communication platforms to display works by local artists or share local news.
For this project, the Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG) sponsored 200 million KRW, and architects Shin Jooyoung and Hwang Hyunhye from Architecture Office MOC donated their design expertise.
The Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG, President Yoo Byungtae) is actively promoting various social contribution projects for the Busan community and underprivileged groups.
Architects Shin Jooyoung and Hwang Hyunhye, young architects from Busan, have been actively working in the city since opening Architecture Office MOC in 2018.
Busanjingu (District Mayor Kim Youngwook) provided the locations for the bus stops and contributed to the smooth progress of the project by taking over the facilities.
The completion ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on the 11th at the two newly renovated bus stops: Busanjingu Office and Hwain Apartment stops (in front of the North Gate 3 of Busan Citizens Park).
Ha Sungtae, Director of the City Housing and Architecture Bureau, stated, "Well-designed public facilities throughout the city are an important factor in enhancing the dignity of the city. We hope that installing user-friendly, regionally tailored bus stops will not only improve the streetscape but also enhance the convenience and safety of citizens."
The 'Busan International Architecture Festival' is an organization that holds various competitions and exhibitions and operates educational programs to increase citizens' understanding and capabilities related to urban architecture. It runs social contribution projects by receiving donations of resources and talent from the urban and architectural community and was approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2003.
