Hankyung Association Invites Former White House Chiefs and Advisors for US Presidential Election Outlook Talk

Invitation of Former Prime Minister Prebus and Former Advisor Begala at FKI Tower, Yeouido on the 10th

The Korea Economic Association invited Lines Priebus, former White House Chief of Staff, and Paul Begala, former White House Senior Advisor, to hold a dialogue on the theme of '2024 U.S. Presidential Election Outlook.' This was to provide Korean businesspeople with a balanced perspective.

On the 11th, the Korea Economic Association announced that the dialogue took place on the afternoon of the 10th at the FKI Tower Conference Center in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The dialogue was held about 50 days before the U.S. presidential election. The Korea Economic Association stated that the dialogue was planned to deepen Korean businesspeople's understanding of the U.S. election landscape and to seek effective response measures.


The private dialogue was attended by over 50 figures from various fields and businesspeople, including Chung Mong-joon, Honorary Chairman of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, Yoon Young-kwan, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Park Jin, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sung Rae-eun, Vice Chairman of Youngone Trading, and Kim Won-jun, CEO of Samsung Global Research.


In his opening remarks, Ryu Jin, Chairman of the Korea Economic Association, said, "I am pleased to be able to provide Korean businesspeople with a professional and balanced view of the current situation of the U.S. presidential election."


During the dialogue, former Chief of Staff Priebus and former Senior Advisor Begala shared analyses of the U.S. presidential election outlook, including the candidates' policies on advanced industries and energy, as well as the United States' Indo-Pacific regional policies and prospects. They especially explained trade and commerce policies, tax and regulatory issues, and response strategies that Korean companies should pay attention to. They also shared points to watch in the first debate between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump, held on the evening of the 10th (local time).


The Korea Economic Association stated, "We will continue to provide a platform for exchanges between experts with deep insights into global economic issues and Korean businesspeople."
