Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) revealed that 84.1% of respondents were satisfied with Mayor Oh Seung-rok's job performance in a policy evaluation survey conducted to mark the 2nd anniversary of the 8th elected term.
The district conducted the survey to set administrative directions tailored to the needs of residents, the policy demanders, through a comprehensive diagnosis and analysis of the 8th elected term's district administration, and to perform a mid-term check.
The survey, which received responses from 717 male and female residents aged 18 and over last August, was broadly designed to cover ▲residential environment and future settlement intentions in Nowon-gu ▲awareness level and vision of the 8th elected term administration ▲interest, importance, and urgency evaluations of major policies ▲evaluation of the district administration and reasons ▲desired urban development models and expectations for the 3rd year of the 8th elected term.
Residents who participated in the survey showed broad support for the 8th elected term administration, with 83.4% responding positively to the basic direction of the district administration. The polling agency interpreted this result as particularly meaningful because all demographics, regardless of age, gender, or occupation, showed generally balanced response levels.
In the evaluation of the district administration, 84.1% of residents rated it as "doing well," and similarly, most demographics exceeded 80%, indicating balanced recognition in both setting the basic direction and actual policy implementation.
The reasons for positive evaluations were consistent. Residents who praised the basic direction of the district administration cited "clear goal setting" and "empathy" as reasons,
especially positively evaluating the district's strengths as "working systematically" and "communication and promotion."
Furthermore, the agreement rate that Nowon-gu's administration "changes my life" was 70.6%, indicating a relatively high sense of unity between residents' lives and the administration.
A district official analyzed that the long-term tasks in the fields of future city and transportation city and the life-close policies in the fields of healing city and cultural city have reached a stage where residents can feel their effects. Among survey respondents, 61.4% of residents who engage in daytime activities in the Gangnam area answered that Nowon is "better than other autonomous districts," showing that the district's policies resonate with residents.
In particular, regarding the representative slogan of the 8th elected term, the 'Cultural City Nowon' policy, 79.1% agreed that cultural events play a role in enhancing quality of life, belonging, and pride, and 67.5% agreed that the variety of entertainment such as five major festivals and three major concerts around daily life is increasing, demonstrating that the 'Fun Cultural City' has established itself as a daily brand.
Regarding satisfaction with the residential environment, 64.1% of residents expressed satisfaction. Among them, 54.4% cited transportation and mobility convenience as factors considered in their evaluation, and the district evaluates that the creation of a "faster and more convenient transportation city," one of the six district administration goals, is being successfully realized.
Also, despite weaknesses in parking, real estate value, and job sectors related to settlement conditions, 64.1% showed satisfaction. Regarding the 15.4% of residents considering moving who cited "proximity of work and residence" and "a more pleasant residential environment" as reasons, a district official explained, "The preparation for leapfrogging into an economically self-sufficient city through the establishment of Seoul Digital Bio City (S-DBC) and the creation of sustainable settlement conditions through rapid reconstruction and redevelopment align with the district administration's direction and residents' wishes to advance into a new city concentrated with work-residence-play."
The fact that reconstruction and redevelopment ranked first again at 38% as areas the district should focus on supports this.
Additionally, detailed policies such as the 'Bio Complex Development' in the future city sector and the 'Undergrounding of Dongbu Expressway' in the transportation city sector attracted much attention, and policies like 'Suraksan Recreation Forest Development,' 'Park Renovation,' 'Establishment of Regional Sports Centers,' and 'Creation of Libraries within a 10-minute Walk' also scored high in interest, importance, and urgency, indicating that projects aligned with district administration goals are being promoted, according to a district official.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "I am pleased that the results of actively and proactively promoting policies based on our district's unique characteristics have appropriately responded to residents' administrative demands," adding, "Building on this survey result, we will reflect on areas needing improvement and do our best to enhance Nowon's urban brand value through meticulous and proactive administration."
