Achieved 1st Place in Overall Employment Rate and Female Employment Rate in First Half of 2024 Following Last Year... 2nd Place in Youth Employment Rate
Ranked 1st Among 25 Districts of Seoul... Leading 'Job Policy' by Setting Employment Rate Records Every Year
District Mayor Choi Hogwon: "The Best Welfare is Jobs" - Will Work Tirelessly to Become a Hub for 4th Industrial Revolution Jobs Near Workplaces

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it ranked first in both the ‘overall employment rate’ and ‘female employment rate’ categories in the 2024 first half regional employment survey released by Statistics Korea.

Following the first and second halves of the previous year, this year as well, Yeongdeungpo-gu proudly secured first place among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul in both the ‘overall employment rate’ (ages 15-64) and ‘female employment rate’ categories, proving itself as a leading district in job policy. Additionally, it achieved an impressive second place in the youth employment rate category.

In particular, the ‘overall employment rate’ (ages 15-64) and ‘female employment rate’ rose compared to last year, recording 75.1% and 68.3% respectively, setting new records each year.

These achievements are the result of multifaceted efforts to create jobs and support employment under the vision of ‘Yeongdeungpo, a vibrant future city through jobs,’ despite the challenging social atmosphere. In fact, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon has emphasized job policies in his book Choi Ho-kwon, The Dream of Local Autonomy, stating that ‘the best welfare is jobs, and the starting point of urban development is also jobs.’

Currently, the district is establishing a new ‘Integrated Job Support Center’ to gather and provide scattered public and private job information in one place.

In addition, it operates unique employment and start-up programs such as 1:1 on-site interviews tailored to actual job seekers’ needs called Job For You, a mobile job discovery team called Job-ara Field Task Force, and courses like pharmacy clerk and shared accommodation start-up training.

Furthermore, it supports unemployed youth with ‘language and certification exam fees’ and offers artificial intelligence and big data education to nurture talent who will lead the 4th industrial revolution, serving as a strong pillar for young job seekers.

Moreover, it actively responds to social changes and diverse job demands by supporting a one-person media creation studio and community spaces for retirees aged 40-50.

Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “This achievement is thanks to tireless, around-the-clock efforts to make Yeongdeungpo a place abundant with jobs,” adding, “The reason people gather in a city is because there are jobs. We will not be satisfied with this and will move forward more vigorously to make Yeongdeungpo a hub for 4th industrial revolution jobs with close proximity between residence and workplace.”
