"Evidence Secured, Cannot Conclude Risk of Escape"
The court dismissed the arrest warrants for Song Mo (31) and Kim Mo (28), who are accused of threatening YouTuber Jjuyang (real name Park Jung-won) and extorting a large sum of money.
On the 10th, Kim Seok-beom, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, ruled, "Although the case is serious, evidence has already been secured, and it is difficult to conclude that there is a risk of flight, so it is hard to recognize the grounds or necessity for detention."
According to the police, from June 2021 to November 2022, they threatened to expose Jjuyang's past through Jjuyang's YouTube channel PD and extorted 216 million won under the charge of joint extortion under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (Violent Acts).
After receiving the PD's complaint in July and starting an investigation, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul applied for arrest warrants for Song and others on the 5th. It is reported that Song and the others had no prior acquaintance with Jjuyang.
Other YouTubers, including Guje-yeok (real name Lee Jun-hee), who are accused of extorting tens of millions of won from Jjuyang through threats or aiding such acts, were indicted last month and are currently on trial. Lawyer Choi Mo, who is accused of threatening to reveal Jjuyang's personal history and extorting tens of millions of won under the pretext of consultation fees, has also been brought to trial.
