With the Chuseok holiday just a week away, the district mayors of Seoul are gradually becoming busier.


Every day is bustling with activities such as shopping at traditional markets to revitalize the local economy and preparing Chuseok holiday gifts for neighbors in need.


In particular, district mayors are getting even busier ahead of Chuseok as they need to meet and communicate directly with residents.

On the 10th, Jo Seongmyeong, mayor of Gangnam District, visited the Chuseok direct trade market opened at the district office parking lot to purchase ritual items.


The direct trade market featured participation from over 80 farms across more than 50 locations nationwide, selling holiday ritual items such as Korean beef, pears, and apples, as well as local specialties like dried yellow corvina and mushrooms, at prices discounted by more than 10% compared to market prices.


Additionally, a 'Friendship City Promotion Hall' was operated as a venue for friendly exchanges, with participation from eight local governments.


Mayor Jo Seongmyeong said, “At this direct trade market, residents can purchase high-quality local specialties economically and get closer to the friendship cities that exchange with Gangnam District,” adding, “I hope everyone visits this lively market full of festive atmosphere and prepares for a bountiful Chuseok.”

Lee Soonhee, mayor of Gangbuk District, will tour 16 traditional markets within the district over four days from the 9th to the 12th to closely observe the local economy and livelihood sites ahead of the Chuseok holiday.


On the first day of the visits, the 9th, Mayor Lee started at Suyu Plaza located in Suyu-dong, then visited Suyu Traditional Market and others, purchasing various foods such as fruits, encouraging merchants, and listening to diverse opinions to revitalize traditional markets. She also greeted market visitors and checked if there were any inconveniences in using the markets.


Mayor Lee Soonhee said, “I ask many people to actively use Gangbuk District’s traditional markets to revitalize the local economy during Chuseok,” and added, “The district will continue to spare no support to revitalize traditional markets.”


To promote the use of traditional markets during the Chuseok holiday, the district temporarily allows parking until the 18th at five locations including the two markets with permanent parking allowed?Baeknyeon Market and Suyu Central Market?as well as Ui (Alley) Market, Dongbuk Market, Solsaem Market, Gangbuk Northern Market, and Jangmiwon Alley Market.


Additionally, Ui Alley Market, Suyu Traditional Market, and Suyu Traditional Market are holding various Chuseok holiday events for visitors.

Oh Seungrok, Nowon District Mayor, Receives Donation for Traditional Market Love Sharing



On the morning of the 9th at 9 a.m., Oh Seungrok, mayor of Nowon District, held a donation ceremony for KB Kookmin Bank’s Chuseok ‘Traditional Market Love Sharing Project’ in the district mayor’s office.


At the ceremony, attended by Oh Seungrok, KB Kookmin Bank’s Nam Ilhwan, head of the Nowon Regional Headquarters, Moon Suhyun, branch manager of Nowon District Office branch, Kim Jongmin, manager of Nowon Comprehensive Finance branch, and Lim Sanggi, chairman of the Sangye Central Market Merchants Association, a donation of 14.7 million won was delivered to Sangye Central Market. The donation will be used for the ‘Traditional Market Love Sharing Project’ conducted at Sangye Central Market.


The ‘Traditional Market Love Sharing Project’ is a social contribution project hosted by the Korea International Hunger Relief Organization and sponsored by KB Kookmin Bank, aimed at revitalizing traditional markets and supporting socially marginalized groups in the community to have a warm holiday.


The district will hold an event on September 12 in front of the customer support center at Sangye Central Market to deliver sharing packages to 210 low-income households.


The sharing packages consist of newly harvested rice, rice cake soup rice cakes, seaweed, and other items purchased from traditional markets, and the Nowon District Welfare Policy Division’s Welfare Resources Team will distribute them to each household in cooperation with 19 neighborhood community service centers.


Mayor Oh Seungrok said, “I thank KB Kookmin Bank for leading support for marginalized neighbors every year,” and added, “We will continue to consider various ways and actively strive to ensure that traditional markets and the local community can coexist and prosper together.”

Jung Munheon, Jongno District Mayor, Holds Sharing Network Agreement Ceremony



Jongno District (Mayor Jung Munheon) held a ‘Jongno Sharing Network’ agreement ceremony on the 9th at the district office planning situation room.


The Sharing Network focuses on strengthening public-private cooperation to solve local welfare issues and involves Jongno District, Jongno Welfare Foundation, and Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest.


The project period is from April 2025 to March 2026. Going forward, it plans to focus on fundraising and distribution activities centered on Jongno District to provide high-quality welfare services and promote a virtuous cycle of sharing.


The event was attended by Jongno District Mayor Jung Munheon, Kim Dongryeol, chairman of the Jongno Welfare Foundation launched on the 4th, and Shin Hyeyoung, secretary-general of the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest.


Mayor Jung Munheon stated, “We will strengthen cooperation among Jongno District, Jongno Welfare Foundation, and Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, who share the same purpose, to establish a fundraising and distribution system tailored to local characteristics, provide more meticulous support to vulnerable groups, and enhance Jongno District’s welfare self-sufficiency.”


Other Seoul district mayors have already visited or plan to visit traditional markets as well.


The busy movements of district mayors during the holiday season are drawing attention.
