Live Broadcast via X... 36 Experiments Over Five Days
Expectations for Record of Humanity's Highest Achievement
SpaceX's spacecraft for the first-ever civilian spacewalk was launched on the 10th.
According to AFP and other sources, the space capsule "Dragon," carrying out the "Polaris Dawn" mission, was launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, on the same day. The launch was broadcast live on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Polaris Dawn is a private spaceflight project led by billionaire and pilot Jared Isaacman (41). Along with Isaacman, retired Air Force pilot Scott Kid Potee and two female engineers from SpaceX, a total of four people will undertake a five-day spaceflight.
Dragon is expected to fly up to 1,400 km, more than three times higher than the orbit of the International Space Station (ISS). If successful, it will mark the highest point reached by humanity in half a century since NASA's last Apollo program in 1972.
Among the four private astronauts, two will wear newly developed SpaceX extravehicular activity (EVA) suits on the third day of the flight and conduct a spacewalk tethered at an altitude of 700 km. This is the first attempt at a spacewalk by civilians who are not professional astronauts affiliated with government agencies such as NASA. They will conduct 36 different research projects and experiments in space and attempt laser-based communication via Starlink satellites.
