Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced the appointment of Ma Hae-geun, former Head of Public Relations, as the new Executive Director and Head of the Operations Headquarters, and Ko Hee-gyu, former Head of the Civil Engineering Department, as the new Head of the Technical Headquarters.

The Head of the Operations Headquarters is an executive position responsible for overseeing and coordinating services for subway users, sales management, and related strategies.


The Head of the Technical Headquarters is an executive position responsible for overseeing standardization across all technical fields within the corporation, as well as planning, implementing, and managing maintenance schedules.


The terms for both new heads are three years. (September 10, 2024 ? September 9, 2027)


Ma Hae-geun, the new Head of the Operations Headquarters (Executive Director), joined Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation in 1994 and has held key positions that cover various corporate issues, including Director of External Cooperation (2019), Director of Finance (2021), and Head of Public Relations (2023).

In particular, during his tenure managing performance, he made significant contributions to achieving the first-ever three consecutive 'A' grades in management evaluation among subway corporations nationwide, and demonstrated outstanding capabilities in media relations, showcasing excellent execution skills.


Ko Hee-gyu, the new Head of the Technical Headquarters (Executive Director), joined Seoul Subway Corporation in November 1995 in a technical role and has mainly worked in the civil engineering field as Head of the Civil Engineering Office and Head of the Civil Engineering Department, possessing extensive knowledge and experience in the railway sector. Since May 2021, as Head of the Civil Engineering Department, he has worked to improve subway accessibility for transportation-vulnerable groups by installing elevators in all stations on Lines 1 through 8, securing the 'One Station, One Accessible Route' initiative. Additionally, he has proactively led congestion improvement projects such as creating new entrances to prevent safety accidents caused by dense crowds at Seongsu Station.


Ma Hae-geun, Head of the Operations Headquarters, stated, “I am fully aware of the heavy responsibility entrusted to me in charge of customer convenience and sales strategy for Seoul Subway,” and added, “I will work together with the staff to make the subway more convenient and comfortable for citizens.”


Ko Hee-gyu, Head of the Technical Headquarters, said, “With Line 1 having been in operation for 50 years, the aging subway structures and systems present a critical challenge for innovative performance improvements,” and expressed his commitment, “I will do my best to create a safer subway that citizens can trust.”
