Elderly Person Collapsed at Hwayang-dong Community Center on September 3 Morning Saved by CPR; Hero is Visiting Nurse Kim Kyung-eun at Gwangjin-gu Hwayang-dong Community Center
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced that a 90-year-old senior who collapsed was given emergency treatment and saved at the Hwayang-dong Community Service Center’s first-floor Residents' Lounge. The hero is Kim Kyung-eun, a visiting nurse working at the Hwayang-dong Community Service Center.
On the morning of September 3rd, around 8:40 AM, Nurse Kim was measuring blood pressure and blood sugar for participants in the senior job program at the Residents' Lounge on the first floor of the Hwayang-dong Community Service Center. At that moment, she noticed a senior sitting on a chair across from her who had dropped their head and was slumped over, unconscious.
The limp body was cold and damp. After confirming decreased consciousness and no pulse, she immediately called 119. She laid the senior down from the chair to the floor and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). After 2 to 3 chest compressions, the senior regained consciousness. It was a tense situation with fluctuating consciousness within just a few minutes.
The conscious senior showed symptoms of dizziness and vomiting, so they rested lying down at the spot for 10 minutes, sipping a little water to soothe their throat. Around 9 AM, the 119 emergency medical team arrived, followed shortly by the guardian. Vital signs (V/S) were checked and found to be normal, so it was decided that a trip to the emergency room was unnecessary, and the senior returned home with their guardian.
The senior was identified as a 90-year-old participant in the job program. It was confirmed that they had underlying conditions including hypertension, gastric ulcer, and angina.
Nurse Kim said, “When I saw the senior’s head drooping and body slumped, I immediately rushed over. Since they were unconscious, I contacted the 119 emergency team and performed CPR,” adding, “I occasionally visit the senior’s home to check on their health and call to see how they are doing. I’m relieved that nothing serious happened. I hope they stay healthy for a long time.”
Kim Kyung-eun joined in 2023 and works as a visiting nurse at the Hwayang-dong Community Service Center. She is known for her diligence and responsibility, serving as a role model for other staff members.
