The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), in collaboration with Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woochul), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 10 at the KIOST Busan headquarters (located in Yeongdo-gu, Busan) for the "Sustainable Development of the Marine Bio Industry."

This MOU was established to foster the marine bio industry as a future growth engine and to promote joint research and exchange cooperation necessary for Korea to advance as a leading maritime nation.
Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to build a close cooperative relationship in the following areas: ▲ support for the dissemination and demonstration of marine bio-related technology and research and development for companies ▲ training and exchange of marine bio professionals ▲ joint utilization of infrastructure such as equipment and facilities related to marine bio and marine surveys ▲ customized support for marine bio venture companies, as well as the discovery and operation of related programs.
In addition, they agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as establishing an offshore seaweed aquaculture system using marine satellite data and the joint use of vessels for marine research.
KIOST President Lee Heeseung stated, "We expect that this agreement between Wando-gun, which is blessed with an exceptional marine environment, and KIOST, equipped with expertise and infrastructure in the marine bio field, will contribute to the advancement of Korea's marine bio industry."
