The Department of Hair Design at Tongmyong University (headed by Kim Seoin) became the first Korean university student to win a main award in the general stylist category at the 25th SASSOON SCHOOLSHIP HAIR CUT CONTEST, the only international competition organized by Sassoon.
Winning an award at the world-renowned Sassoon Haircut Contest is a challenge even for professional hair stylists with decades of experience, but this time, a university student achieved it.
On the 3rd, Do Hyunjung (23), a fourth-year student in the Department of Hair Design at Tongmyong University, received the main award in the stylist category at this contest held at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, becoming the first university student in 25 years to do so.
The Sassoon Haircut Contest, hosted annually in Japan by the London Sassoon Academy Schoolship Salonship, is the only international competition by Sassoon, where the SASSOON CUT techniques studied and exchanged through the Sassoon Schoolship Salonship are judged by the strict standards of the Sassoon Director Team.
This event, attended by thousands of spectators and participants, is a grand platform for hair design exchange with leading hair stylists from around the world and the London Sassoon main school's International Creative Director, Mark Hayes, along with other creative directors.
The Department of Hair Design at Tongmyong University was the first four-year university to sign a schoolship agreement with the London (Vidal) Sassoon Academy and, to foster demand-driven talent, introduced the new educational model of LONDON SASSOON, the global hub of beauty education, in the 2024 academic year.
Through the three-semester Co-op education innovation, the department is implementing various curricular and extracurricular programs to realize the Work2Learn model.
Kim Seoin, head of the department, stated, "Tongmyong University is strengthening the competitiveness of local universities and nurturing global talent through classes taught by faculty who have completed the UK Sassoon Academy's Director Course (TDTC), special curriculum training for current students at the London Sassoon main campus, and holding seminars and workshops twice a year with directors from the Sassoon Academy's London headquarters visiting Korea," adding, "We will continue to strive to establish ourselves as the nation's top prestigious Department of Hair Design."
