Construction Project to be Carried Out Until 2027
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 10th that Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, has been selected as the local government for the Kimchi Raw Material Supply Complex construction project.
The Kimchi Raw Material Supply Complex construction project aims to establish a stable kimchi raw material (mainly napa cabbage) supply system in the region by creating large-scale safe and hygienic cold storage facilities and pickling production facilities. Construction projects are underway in Goesan-gun, Chungbuk, and Haenam-gun, Jeonnam, until next year, and Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, has been selected as the third project area. The project period is from this year until 2027.
The newly constructed Kimchi Raw Material Supply Complex will be able to store 10,000 tons of napa cabbage, serving both as a raw material storage facility for kimchi companies and a function to stabilize supply and demand. It can also produce up to 50 tons of pickled napa cabbage per day, securing a fixed sales channel for local napa cabbage farmers and enabling stable supply of pickled napa cabbage to nearby small and medium kimchi companies.
Gochang-gun expects to create about 50 new local jobs through the establishment and operation of the Kimchi Raw Material Supply Complex.
Yang Ju-pil, Food Industry Policy Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "This Kimchi Raw Material Supply Complex construction has marked a turning point in stabilizing the supply of kimchi raw materials," adding, "We will continue to implement policies that can enhance the competitiveness of the kimchi industry."
