Lawsuit Filed Claiming 60 Billion Won in Damages Since First Trial Verdict in August Last Year
NCSoft has filed a lawsuit against Webzen at the Seoul High Court, seeking to halt the service of the mobile game 'R2M' and claim damages totaling 60 billion KRW.
According to Webzen's disclosure on the 10th, NCSoft demanded 60 billion KRW, stating that Webzen must not allow general users to use 'R2M' or promote, advertise, reproduce, distribute, transmit, or adapt it.
Previously, NCSoft claimed that Webzen's 'R2M', released in 2020, imitated its own 'Lineage M', which was launched in 2017, and filed a copyright lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court in 2021.
In response, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff in August last year, ordering Webzen to pay NCSoft 1 billion KRW and prohibiting Webzen from allowing general users to use the game provided under the name 'R2M' or promoting, advertising, reproducing, distributing, transmitting, or adapting it. However, the service of 'R2M' continued as Webzen's injunction to suspend enforcement filed after the ruling was accepted by the court.
After the first trial, NCSoft announced it would expand the scope of damages claimed and on the 6th submitted a request to change the claim purpose and grounds to the appellate court, increasing the claimed damages to 60 billion KRW.
Webzen stated, "We plan to respond according to legal procedures in consultation with our legal representatives."
