Customized Advanced Programs by Subject Offered to Over 400 First and Second Year High School Students
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will further expand the WeCanDo Weekend School in the second half of the year, following high satisfaction ratings from students and parents in the first half.
The Busan Office of Education announced on the 10th that it will operate the "WeCanDo Weekend School (2nd and 3rd sessions)" for about 400 first and second-year high school students in Busan until January 2025.
The Academic Change program, which has been running since 2023 to improve academic achievement and reduce the burden of private education expenses through customized regional joint subject programs by district, achieved satisfaction rates of 92% among students and 93.4% among parents in the first half of 2024.
The Office of Education will add science and social studies to the existing Korean, mathematics, and English subjects, offering subject-specific lectures in five subjects at nine schools including Gaegum High School. Students can choose one of the five subjects to take an in-depth, achievement-standard-based course. They will also participate in customized programs that are rarely available at school, such as career and college entrance consulting and special lectures by guest speakers to boost learning motivation.
On the 21st, a special lecture to boost learning motivation will be held at Isabel High School, not only for students enrolled in the Weekend School but also for any interested middle and high school students. The event will include basic competency education and special lectures by renowned speakers.
Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "Through the WeCanDo Weekend School, which is operated in connection with the Educational Development Special Zone Academic Change project, we expect to provide significant support for academic achievement among general high school students," and added, "We will achieve a transformation in public education led by excellent programs centered on public education in Busan."
