By September 27, complete the systematic cleanup of indiscriminate illegal banners, signboards, etc., around school zones to prevent commuting inconvenience and safety accidents... In September, also conduct a systematic cleanup of 324 designated banner posting sites, with removal and new installation based on aging and risk levels
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) will conduct a comprehensive cleanup of illegally installed banners, sexually suggestive flyers, and advertisements around schools until September 27 to create a safe educational environment and a clean commuting environment for the new school term.
The target areas are the child protection zones around elementary schools (within 300m of the main entrance) and educational environment protection zones (within 200m of the school boundary). Even areas outside these zones that students pass through or adjacent areas requiring safety management, as well as places exposed to harmful environments, will be the focus of the cleanup.
The cleanup targets include old or illegally installed fixed advertisements (wall-mounted, protruding, pole, rooftop signs), obscene, decadent, or sexually suggestive flyers and business card-type advertisements, and illegally installed banners, sandwich boards, air lights, and other mobile advertisements indiscriminately placed around students' commuting routes.
Advertisements that threaten pedestrian traffic safety, including mobile advertisements within the cleanup zones, will be immediately removed by the district cleanup team to prevent students from experiencing inconvenience or accidents during their commute due to illegal advertisements.
Meanwhile, the district will also conduct a comprehensive cleanup of designated banner posting stands. By the end of September, on-site surveys will be completed for 324 designated banner posting stands in the area (24 for public use, 73 for commercial use, and 6 prioritized for political use). Approximately 15 locations will be selected based on aging and risk levels for removal and replacement or relocation to prevent safety accidents and improve urban aesthetics.
Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Every year at the start of the new school term, we conduct a comprehensive cleanup of illegal advertisements around schools so that students can commute comfortably and safely. We will continue to enforce and maintain a safe commuting environment that students and parents can trust.”
