The powertrain system equipped on Hyundai Motor Company and Kia's dedicated electric vehicle platform 'E-GMP' has been selected as one of Wards Auto's Top 10 Engines for three consecutive years.
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 10th that the powertrain systems of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV9 GT-Line have won the '2024 Wards Auto Top 10 Engines and Propulsion Systems' award selected by Wards Auto.
Notably, this award is significant because two dedicated electric vehicles based on the E-GMP platform were selected simultaneously. Additionally, Hyundai has won the award for three consecutive years following the Ioniq 5 in 2022 and the Ioniq 6 in 2023.
Wards Auto, an American automotive media outlet, has been selecting the world's Top 10 engines annually since 1995. It is recognized as a prestigious award in the automotive powertrain technology field, often referred to as the 'Oscar' of the industry due to its global recognition.
This year, the judging panel comprehensively evaluated 34 powertrains installed in new vehicles sold in the United States based on performance, efficiency, and technology, ultimately selecting the top 10 powertrains. As the electrification trend of powertrains accelerated, Wards Auto changed the award name to 'Top 10 Engines and Propulsion Systems' starting in 2019.
The powertrain systems of the Ioniq 5 N and EV9, selected as Top 10 Engines, received high evaluations for excellent driving performance, single-charge driving range, and advanced driving-related technologies.
The Ioniq 5 N delivers a maximum output of 478 kW (650 horsepower, boost mode basis) and maximum torque of 770 Nm (78.5 kgf·m, boost mode basis) based on a high-performance all-wheel-drive system combining front and rear motors. It is equipped with various high-performance electric vehicle N-exclusive technologies, including an 84 kWh high-output battery and a high-performance EV-specific thermal management control system, earning praise for its overwhelming driving performance.
The EV9 features a large-capacity 99.8 kWh battery, providing a maximum single-charge driving range of 501 km. It also offers innovative electrification specifications such as a 400/800V multi ultra-fast charging system and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) bidirectional charging, along with spacious interior and various second-row seat options.
A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, "Through the excellent driving performance, single-charge driving range, and fast ultra-fast charging speed of the E-GMP platform, we will provide customers with an even more perfect EV experience."
