Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 10th that it delivered a government petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 9th, urging the early implementation of the relaxation of height restrictions at Gimpo Airport.

On the same day, the district co-hosted the "National Assembly Seminar for the Early Implementation of Height Restriction Relaxation at Gimpo Airport" at the National Assembly Members' Office Building with local lawmakers Han Jeong-ae, Jin Seong-jun, and Kang Seon-woo.

At this seminar, held under the theme "Government Petition for the Relaxation of Height Restrictions in Areas Surrounding Gimpo Airport," Gangseo-gu emphasized the explanation of the height restriction relaxation plan for Gimpo Airport, which was finalized in June after a research project, and the necessity of its early implementation. The district also delivered a petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport containing the voices of residents who have suffered for decades from airplane noise and height restrictions, as well as a strong will to promote the early relaxation of height restrictions.

The core of the petition is the priority adoption of the height restriction standards tailored to the characteristics of Gimpo Airport prepared by the district. This includes the need to swiftly revise domestic laws and guidelines in line with the 2025 ICAO international standard revision schedule to establish an institutional foundation, and actively urging ICAO on the urgency of relaxing height restrictions.

Going forward, the district plans to continue close cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and local governments near Gimpo Airport, maintaining ongoing consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which holds final approval authority.

About 200 people attended the seminar, including Maeng Seong-gyu, Chairman of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, and the Public-Private Joint Committee for Promoting the Relaxation of Airport Height Restrictions. Officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and aviation experts also participated, enhancing the feasibility of relaxing height restrictions at Gimpo Airport.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon stated, "We have prepared the final plan for relaxing height restrictions tailored to the characteristics of Gimpo Airport, reflecting the flight procedures currently in operation at Gimpo Airport and the ICAO international standard revision," and emphasized, "Active government support and interest are necessary to ensure the early implementation of height restriction relaxation."
