Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun met with the Defense Ministers of the Netherlands and Singapore to explain the excellence of our weapon systems and to request their interest.
On the 9th, Minister Kim held talks with Ruben Brekelmans, the Dutch Minister of Defense, who visited Korea to attend the '2nd High-Level Meeting on the Responsible Military Use of Artificial Intelligence' (REAIM High-Level Meeting) at the Ministry of National Defense.
Minister Kim mentioned that Korea and the Netherlands co-hosted the 2nd REAIM High-Level Meeting and said that the two countries should cooperate to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) technology is used in the right direction for building future military capabilities. He also requested the Netherlands' interest in our weapon systems. The two ministers agreed on the need for further cooperation between the two countries in defense science and technology and the defense industry, and decided to promptly hold the 'Director-General Level Defense Policy Working Meeting,' which was discussed between the two countries last year, to facilitate communication.
Minister Kim then held talks with Ng Eng Hen, the Singaporean Minister of Defense. Minister Kim expressed gratitude for Singapore's support of our North Korea policy aimed at peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, explained the excellence of our weapon systems, and requested their interest.
Minister Ng Eng Hen responded that the two countries are developing cooperative relations in various fields beyond defense and pledged to continue efforts for peace and stability in the region, including the Korean Peninsula. The Ministry of National Defense stated that Korea and Singapore plan to further develop defense cooperation through the operation of regular consultative bodies in the future.
