A man in his 50s who killed a colleague on his way to work by hitting him with a blunt weapon and stabbing him with a sharp weapon was arrested by the police.
On the 9th, Gwangju Western Police Station urgently arrested a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on suspicion of murder, according to Yonhap News Agency. Mr. A is accused of killing his colleague Mr. B around 7:30 a.m. that day in front of an elevator inside an apartment complex in Pungam-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju. Mr. A allegedly hit Mr. B two or three times with a bamboo stick he had prepared in advance, then stabbed him multiple times in the neck with a sharp weapon before fleeing.

Mr. A waited near the apartment for Mr. B for about an hour and 30 minutes before the crime, and approached him as Mr. B left his home to go to work, committing the crime. Mr. B, who suffered severe injuries to his neck and back, was transported to the hospital by the fire department that arrived at the scene but died en route. Immediately after the crime, Mr. A went down to the first floor via the apartment's emergency stairs, got into a car, and fled the scene. He was urgently arrested by the police around 10:55 a.m. that day in a parking lot of an apartment in Buk-gu, Gwangju, about three hours after the crime. The bamboo stick and sharp weapon used in the crime were found in the emergency stairs of Mr. B’s apartment.
Mr. A and Mr. B knew each other from work and were close like friends due to their similar ages. However, it was reported that they had a recent conflict over differences in handling work tasks within the company. Mr. A stated during the police investigation that he "admits to all charges." The police plan to request an autopsy of Mr. B’s body from the National Forensic Service and apply for an arrest warrant for Mr. A.
Meanwhile, last month, a man in his 50s was also caught after stabbing a colleague with a sharp weapon in an apartment elevator and forcibly taking the colleague’s wife away, allegedly because the colleague did not repay money.
On the 24th of last month, Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had arrested and were investigating a man in his 50s, Mr. C, on charges of attempted murder and special confinement. Mr. C is accused of stabbing his colleague, a man in his 40s named Mr. D, in the abdomen with a sharp weapon inside an elevator of an apartment in Minrak-dong, Uijeongbu City, around 11 a.m. on the 23rd of last month. Afterward, Mr. C put Mr. D’s wife in a car, confined her, and fled, but he called 112 himself and was arrested about an hour later. During the police investigation, Mr. C reportedly stated that "he committed the crime after an argument because Mr. D did not repay borrowed money." Mr. D, who was injured in the right abdomen, was transported to the hospital and is receiving treatment, with no life-threatening condition reported.
