Pohang City held the '2024 Green Bio Industry International Conference' at the POSCO International Center on the 9th.
This conference, which will be held over two days from the 9th to the 10th, is attended by 16 speakers from six countries including the United States, Israel, China, Singapore, and Lithuania, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and POSTECH, among other industry, academia, and research sectors.
Prior to the conference, five organizations?Pohang Technopark, Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency, Gangwon Technopark, Jinju Bio Industry Promotion Agency, and Chungnam Technopark, which operate the Green Bio Venture Campus?signed a mutual cooperation agreement for fostering green bio venture companies and activating the industry.
The agreement includes mutual cooperation in areas such as ▲operation of the venture campus ▲joint business development ▲shared use of facilities and equipment ▲information exchange ▲and human resource training.
The conference began with a keynote speech by Ahn Ho-geun, President of the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency, on 'The Current Status and Future Direction of the Green Bio Industry.' On the first day, presentations and discussions focused on the development of green bio pharmaceuticals and materials.
In the afternoon, the 'Green Bio Demo Day' event was held for green bio venture companies such as LatBio, JinCell Biotech, BioApp, BioN, BioBricks, and Union House, which were selected for the 'Plant Vaccine Quality Enhancement Support Project' supported by Pohang City, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Gyeongbuk Province. Eight specialized investment companies participated to provide business diagnostics and investment consultations.
On the 10th, the conference will be divided into sessions on the development of veterinary pharmaceuticals and materials, and synthetic biology and material development, with keynote speeches and presentations by international speakers such as ChanJin Park (USA).
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, “This year, a law was enacted for fostering the green bio industry, and next year, a green bio industry development zone will be designated, as the government is actively promoting policies to foster the green bio industry. Pohang will actively support the city to become a global hub for the green bio industry, nurturing promising venture companies and creating jobs.”
Pohang City has established the Green Vaccine Demonstration Support Center, designated as a hub for the commercialization of veterinary pharmaceuticals by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and is promoting the creation of a green bio venture campus for the incubation of green bio venture companies and the establishment of a hub facility for the commercialization of veterinary green bio pharmaceuticals. In particular, this year, Pohang was selected for the Green Bio Material Advanced Analysis System project, further solidifying its position as a hub for the domestic green bio industry.
