Posco Pohang Steelworks visited free meal centers in Songdo-dong and Haedo-dong ahead of the Chuseok holiday to volunteer in meal service and participate in traditional market shopping events.
About 20 representatives from the plant management, maintenance companies, and partner firms attended the event, serving warm meals to senior citizens. In particular, this Chuseok, special dishes such as galbijjim and beef bulgogi, along with fruit desserts, were provided for underprivileged groups struggling due to the economic downturn and rising prices.
Afterwards, the plant management, employees, maintenance company staff, and partner company staff visited five nearby traditional markets, including Daehae Bulbit Market and Keundonghae Market, helping to invigorate the local commercial districts.
Participants had time to purchase items needed for the Chuseok holiday, such as ritual foods, fruits, and seafood, after finishing their lunch.
In addition, goods worth about 3 million won?including songpyeon, fruits, dried seafood, and sesame oil?purchased at the traditional markets were delivered to 11 senior centers and 2 children's centers in Haedo-dong, sharing warmth with their neighbors.
Jung Changshik, Deputy Head of Administration at Pohang Steelworks, said, "I am pleased that POSCO's tradition of visiting local traditional markets and shopping during holidays has become established, adding to the festive atmosphere and bringing vitality to the markets."
Since 2008, Pohang Steelworks has been practicing community love and contributing to the local economy by holding shopping events and free meal volunteer activities every holiday.
