Student Idea Contest, Special Lectures, and Mentoring
Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Taesang) announced on the 9th that it recently held a two-day 'Local Value Creation Hackathon' at Hanwha Resort in Gyeongju to enhance local youths' abilities in local entrepreneurship.
The term 'hackathon' is a combination of 'hacking' and 'marathon,' referring to an event where participants generate ideas and complete business models within a limited time frame.
This competition was part of the Local Content Focused University Project, with 40 students majoring in baking, culinary arts, video media, and beauty-related fields at Gyeongnam Information University participating. The event included programs such as special lectures by local startup companies, expert mentoring, and an idea competition.
Lee Wonhee, head of the project group, said, "Through the hackathon, students had the opportunity to gain practical experience in local entrepreneurship and to realize their creative ideas," adding, "We will continue to strengthen young people's local entrepreneurship capabilities through programs that reflect the unique characteristics of the region."
Since being selected as a Local Content Focused University by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2023, Gyeongnam Information University has established and operated new majors such as 'Local Gastronomy' and 'Media & Beauty Content,' nurturing young local creators.
In addition to the hackathon, the university offers regionally customized programs such as the 'Local Creator Idea Challenge,' 'Domestic Local Entrepreneurship Field Trip,' and 'Local Entrepreneurship Pop-up Store.'
