Admits Charges After Reviewing CCTV
A man in his 20s who stole a delivery driver's vehicle while intoxicated and fled was apprehended by the police.
On the 9th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they had urgently arrested and were investigating a man in his 20s, Mr. A, on charges of theft, drunk driving, and driving without a license. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. the previous day in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, where Mr. A stole a Carnival vehicle left parked by a delivery driver.
According to the police, Mr. A took advantage of the delivery driver’s brief stop to drive the vehicle about 700 meters to his residence.
At the time of arrest, Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was above the license cancellation threshold (0.08%), and his license had already been revoked due to a previous incident.
The police tracked his route through CCTV footage and urgently arrested Mr. A while he was sleeping at his residence.
During the police investigation, Mr. A denied the theft, claiming he did not remember committing the crime due to intoxication, but later admitted to the charges after viewing the CCTV footage showing the theft.
The police stated, "The suspect has been released, and the stolen vehicle has been recovered."
