Park Kyunggui, mayor of Asan City, announced on the 9th that he participated in the site selection contest for the establishment of the "2nd Central Police Academy" organized by the National Police Agency.
Asan City in South Chungcheong Province has officially launched its bid to attract the Second Central Police Academy, putting the concentration of police institutions at the forefront of its campaign.
On the 9th, Asan Mayor Park Kyunggui held a press conference in the city hall situation room and announced that Asan City has applied for the site selection contest for the establishment of the Second Central Police Academy, hosted by the National Police Agency.
The Second Central Police Academy, a new training institution for rookie police officers, is expected to accommodate about 5,000 new recruits annually, who will stay and receive training for about a year. For this contest, Asan City proposed the area of the Police Complex Town, which includes the Police Human Resources Development Institute, Korea National Police University, Investigation Training Institute, and the planned Police Hospital, as the candidate site.
Asan City is highlighting its strong points such as its excellent metropolitan transportation network, including highways, high-speed railways (KTX, SRT), metropolitan subway lines, and the currently reviewed GTX-C extension, as well as the presence of the Police Complex Town, which houses the Police University, Police Human Resources Development Institute, Investigation Training Institute, and the planned Police Hospital.
Mayor Park Kyunggui stated, "Considering the outstanding transportation network and the synergy created by the concentration of police institutions, Asan is the optimal location for the establishment of the Second Central Police Academy," adding, "We will succeed in attracting the academy and develop Asan into a world-class city specialized in police institutions."
He further emphasized, "Currently, a Police Medical City development project covering 582,000 pyeong is planned in the Police Complex Town area. If we also attract the Second Central Police Academy, the development of a mini-new town centered around police institutions can be accelerated."
Meanwhile, a total of 48 cities nationwide have participated in the contest for the Second Central Police Academy. The National Police Agency plans to form a site selection committee, select three candidate sites, and determine the final location after a second evaluation in October.
