The startup team Eco-Quiet from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) has won the top prize at this year's Busan Startup Idea Competition.
Dongseo University announced on the 9th that the Eco-Quiet team received the top prize at the "2024 Busan Startup Idea Competition" held on the 4th. Their project, titled "A Solution to Reduce Inter-floor Noise Using By-products from Secondary Battery Waste and a Wall Pad Monitoring System to Reduce Complaints," earned them the award and a prize of 2 million KRW.
This competition, which is hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and jointly organized by Busan Economic Promotion Agency, Pukyong National University, Busan National University, and Busan Catholic University, is a representative youth startup event in Busan that began in 2015 and celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
The Dongseo University Architectural Engineering startup team has won the top prize for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, and 2024).
This year, 10 teams advanced to the finals after document screening, pitching (presentation) training, and preliminary judging, selected from 107 teams made up of 396 university and high school students from across the country and the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region. These teams further refined their ideas and received final mentoring in preparation for the final competition.
The Dongseo University Eco-Quiet team (led by third-year student Ahn Taeju, with members Lim Hyunwoo, Shin Gukhyeon, Lim Donghyun, Cho Seongwoo, and Bae Jiweon) was recognized for presenting an upcycling technology convergence idea that recycles industrial by-products from discarded secondary battery waste and uses an AI-based wall pad monitoring system to reduce inter-floor noise, addressing a current issue.
The Eco-Quiet team discovered their idea and advanced their technology through the PASTEL startup club support program at the Startup Education Center of Dongseo University LINC3.0 Project Group, achieving results at this competition.
Student Ahn Taeju said, "By applying a small idea of recycling waste discarded in society to noise reduction technology between floors, we were able to contribute to solving environmental problems. I would like to thank the professors of the Department of Architectural Engineering and the members of the LINC3.0 Project Group for helping us concretize and realize our idea in such a short preparation period."
Hwang Kihyun, head of the LINC3.0 Project Group, stated, "I hope that students' ideas will become the starting point for change in the world. The project group will continue to promote customized programs for each stage of entrepreneurship and support students to grow into glocal talents."
Lee Dongwoon, head of the Department of Architectural Engineering at Dongseo University, added, "I believe the students experienced a sense of accomplishment in the process of realizing their ideas. The Department of Architectural Engineering provides tailored support for employment and entrepreneurship based on education that enhances practical skills grounded in engineering technology, and we will continue to strive to foster creative thinking."
