A man has been charged with shooting and killing dozens of animals including goats, chickens, and rabbits raised on someone else's farm.
On the 9th, the AP reported that the trial of 39-year-old Vicente Arroyo began on the 7th (local time) in Northern California, where he shot for three hours and killed 81 animals including horses, goats, and chickens. He is accused of killing 14 goats, 9 chickens, 7 ducks, 5 rabbits, 1 guinea pig, and 33 parrots and cockatiels.
One pony and two pet miniature horses were also killed. One miniature horse belonged to the landowner who raised the animals, while the other 80 animals belonged to a person who rented the land to keep pets.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, and after gunshots were heard, numerous 911 calls were made, prompting police, fire department, and SWAT team to respond. The suspect reportedly surrendered peacefully to the responding officers. Eight firearms were found in the suspect’s pickup truck, and seven firearms along with 2,000 rounds of ammunition were discovered in a camper. A local prosecutor described it as "the most horrific animal abuse case seen in this area to date."
