Pohang City, Global Innovation Hub for Climate Change... Strengthening Solidarity with the International Community Kangduk Lee, Mayor of Pohang, is delivering a keynote speech via video on the 9th at the UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub Systemic Innovation Workshop.

The UN Global Innovation Hub Systemic Innovation Workshop (UGIH S.I.W.) was attended by approximately 100 participants, including Massamba Thioye, Head of the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub, members of the advisory board of the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN), representatives from international organizations such as the European Union (EU), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA), as well as business leaders and experts from Germany, Belgium, Spain, and other countries.

Pohang added significance by being the first local government in Korea to participate in the UN Global Innovation Hub Systemic Innovation Workshop.

During the workshop held in Shenzhen, Mayor Lee delivered his keynote address via video, sharing various policies and achievements related to Pohang's carbon neutrality, and deeply highlighting the seriousness of the climate crisis, which is directly linked to human survival.

He also introduced Pohang's diverse strategies for carbon neutrality, including a major restructuring of industrial sectors toward low-carbon future growth industries, establishing a sustainable energy supply system based on renewable energy, and realizing a people-centered eco-friendly city.

Experts and cities attending the workshop highly praised and resonated with Pohang's efforts and vision.

Starting with this workshop, Pohang plans to pursue various cooperative projects with international organizations and jointly carry out active initiatives for carbon neutrality.

Mayor Lee stated, "Carbon neutrality is a path we must take for the future, and it cannot be achieved by the efforts of a single city alone. Using this workshop as a catalyst, we will strive to present solutions to the climate crisis and realize a sustainable future through joint efforts and sharing of innovative achievements among cities, companies, and international organizations."

The UN Global Innovation Hub (UGIH) is a climate action platform that was launched following a resolution at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) held in Glasgow, UK, in 2021.

The Systemic Innovation Workshop (S.I.W.) promoted through this platform brings together a wide range of climate action stakeholders, including national and local governments and companies, to seek and share innovative solutions for achieving carbon neutrality.

In response to climate change, Pohang declared its vision of "2050 Carbon Neutral Environmental Dream City Pohang" in 2021, and is actively formulating concrete plans and accelerating its pursuit of sustainable growth.
