Gyeonggi Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 9th that it held the Living Wage Committee (Chairman: Vice Mayor) to determine the living wage hourly rate for 2025.
At the committee meeting held in the city hall situation room that day, Mayor Kim Dong-geun presented appointment letters to newly appointed committee members, including city council members, employer organizations, labor organizations, and expert members.
Then, the committee comprehensively considered various factors such as next year's government minimum wage increase rate and the city's financial conditions to decide the 2025 living wage amount.
The living wage for Uijeongbu City in 2025 was set at 11,020 KRW per hour, which is a 1.7% increase from the 2024 living wage of 10,840 KRW, and 9.9% higher than the 2025 minimum wage of 10,030 KRW. When converted to a monthly salary (based on 209 working hours per month), it amounts to 2,303,180 KRW, which is 37,620 KRW higher than this year's 2,265,560 KRW.
The living wage decided this time will be applied from January 1 next year to about 140 workers directly employed by Uijeongbu City and Uijeongbu City-funded and supported institutions.
The living wage is a wage provided to ensure the livelihood stability of public sector workers and to guarantee an improvement in the quality of life in various fields such as education and culture. The city enacted the related ordinance in 2016 and has introduced and implemented it since 2017.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, "I hope that the decision on the living wage amount this time will contribute to closing the income gap and ensuring the practical livelihood stability of our city's workers despite the city's difficult financial conditions," and added, "We will continue to strive so that workers can enjoy a humane life."
