'Incentives' During Risk Pre-Discovery
1 Point = 1 Won, Usable Like Cash
DL E&C announced on the 9th that it will introduce the 'D-Safe Coin' system so that workers can immediately feel rewarded for their safety activities. The purpose is to establish a safety culture and provide motivation.
D-Safe Coin is an internal incentive system that awards up to 5,000 points per day to on-site workers who report safety-related issues or suggest improvements. One point is equivalent to one Korean won and can be converted into KakaoPay Money to be used like cash at shopping malls, cafes, convenience stores, and more.
D-Safe Coin is based on the safety management philosophy that "workers on site know the risks best." DL E&C introduced the 'Safety Report Center' in 2020, allowing workers to report or suggest hazardous factors on site. More than 12,000 reports were received in the first half of this year alone, and DL E&C analyzed the content to improve working conditions. Through this, it was confirmed that as workers’ safety activities increased, safety accidents decreased. The number of injury accidents in the first half of the year dropped by 40% compared to the same period last year.
DL E&C plans to raise workers’ participation in safety activities to the next level through D-Safe Coin and to enhance on-site safety management by expanding the practical use of the right to stop work. This aims to institutionally overcome the psychological barrier workers face, fearing disadvantages from demanding work stoppage. A DL E&C official said, "After conducting the 'Safety Report Center Promotion' event last May, a total of 3,730 reports were submitted, proving high interest, and the average daily number of reports increased more than tenfold compared to normal times."
The Safety Report Center system has been completely revamped focusing on user convenience and improving intuitiveness by simplifying the screen layout. The usage method is also simple. Workers scan QR codes posted throughout the site on posters, workers’ helmets, and break rooms, then upload the time, location, details, and site photos. Reports as well as processing results can be easily checked through the same platform.
When a report is received through the Safety Report Center, it is delivered in real time to the relevant workplace, where work stoppage or corrective actions are taken. Notifications are sent simultaneously to on-site managers, headquarters, and safety officers to enable prompt initial response. Report status is collected and accumulated in real time, and both headquarters and sites can monitor it simultaneously through the Safety Report Center dashboard. DL E&C plans to build a system that supports decision-making based on this big data.
Gilpo Lee, Chief Safety and Health Officer (CSO) of DL E&C, said, "Voluntary participation of workers is key for safety measures to be effective," adding, "With the introduction of D-Safe Coin, we will prevent risks that could lead to serious accidents and contribute to spreading a safety culture."
