Detecting Smoke and Temperature Rise for Transmission
Expanding AIoT Platform Application Areas
"Contributing to Building a Social Safety Net"
KT announced on the 9th that it will expand its video surveillance business using on-device AIoT devices to electric vehicle charging stations. On-device AIoT helps build a safe environment at a reasonable cost and time.
KT is expanding on-device AIoT to various businesses such as taxi advertising and shared kickboards. In this context, KT is collaborating with electric vehicle charging operators like the Korea Automobile Environment Association to apply on-device AIoT video surveillance solutions to electric vehicle charging stations.
KT utilized on-device AIoT technology to reduce the platform construction time and costs required for transmitting large volumes of data for video surveillance. By using KT’s on-device AIoT, data collected in real-time on the device is processed by AI, and only the results are sent to the server, increasing installation convenience and reducing costs.
The on-device AIoT video surveillance solution detects smoke or other anomalies around vehicles being charged through AIoT devices installed above the charging stations and quickly alerts managers from the early stages of abnormal signs.
Typical abnormal signs include rapid temperature increases of the charger connector and vehicle connection terminals detected by infrared or thermal cameras, and V2G communication abnormalities. V2G refers to a technology that connects electric vehicles to the power grid, monitoring battery information via power line communication to manage charging.
On-site situations are transmitted as short videos to the manager’s web screen and application. In the future, the service will be expanded to automatically notify fire stations of abnormal signs or remotely cut off power supply through a control platform linked to the electric vehicle charger.
The on-device AIoT video surveillance solution can also be seen at the "2024 Korea Safety Industry Expo" held at BEXCO in Busan from the 10th to the 12th. Kim Jaegwon, Head of KT’s Strategy and New Business Division AX Business Headquarters (Senior Executive Director), said, "We will expand the application areas of the AIoT platform beyond electric vehicle charging stations to contribute to building a social safety net."
