Demonstration Event Held at Pangyo Station Plaza on the 9th at 1 PM
Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) will conduct an urban autonomous delivery robot service for the first time among local governments nationwide at 1 p.m. on the 9th around Pangyo Station.
The city, in collaboration with the domestic company Newbility, will operate six outdoor autonomous delivery robots around Pangyo Station until December. From the end of October, four additional robots will be deployed around Seohyeon Station to implement a robot delivery service for small and medium-sized merchants and citizens.
Seongnam City was finally selected in the ‘2024 Regulatory Innovation Robot Demonstration Project (Phase 3)’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing a total of 430 million KRW, including 300 million KRW in national funds, to promote the outdoor autonomous delivery robot project.
This project is the first case in which a local government has proactively introduced an outdoor autonomous delivery robot service in Korea since regulations on outdoor mobile robots were lifted in November 2023.
The autonomous delivery robot service scenario consists of the delivery robot loading products when an order is placed at some small and medium-sized merchants, autonomously traveling to the destination to deliver to the customer, and then automatically returning to the starting point to complete the process.
With the introduction of this service, it is expected to reduce delivery costs for small and medium-sized merchants, provide convenient and economical delivery services for citizens, and offer experiences with the latest robot technology.
At the demonstration event, Mayor Shin Sang-jin of Seongnam City will attend to inspect the operation of the robot delivery service and personally verify the entire process from ordering to receiving delivery food.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin stated, “As the first local government to successfully operate an autonomous delivery robot service, we will do our best to introduce advanced services that citizens can experience.”
