Introducing a Platform Featuring History, Design, and Technology
"Created to Make Hydrogen Mobility Feel Familiar"
Hyundai Rotem has launched a promotional website for its hydrogen electric tram. The platform combines history, design, and technology to help citizens become more familiar with hydrogen mobility. The company plans to establish a full lineup of hydrogen-based railway vehicles, including electric trams, multiple units, locomotives, and high-speed trains.
On the 9th, Hyundai Rotem announced the launch of the official website for the hydrogen electric tram, accessible through the company’s main website and social media channels.
The website is an online comprehensive promotional platform that gathers key information about the vehicle, from its development history to design and technology. It features optimized displays for various devices such as computers and mobile phones. The content is organized into vehicle previews, development history, design, and technology sections.
The homepage’s vehicle preview video showcases the interior and exterior design of the hydrogen electric tram from various angles. Viewers can see the tram smoothly running between high-rise buildings and over bridges.
A special documentary video covering the development history of the hydrogen electric tram is also included. The video effectively conveys the vehicle’s development process and sustainability, helping citizens deeply understand and resonate with the value of “sustainable innovation for all,” which is the core purpose behind the tram’s development.
The video features Hyundai Rotem staff and experts who introduce the unique advantages of the hydrogen electric tram. Since it operates with hydrogen fuel cells, it does not require overhead wires, providing citizens with a pleasant urban landscape. It is optimized for long routes with the capability of long-distance operation on a single charge. The video also explains that Hyundai Rotem is the first in the domestic railway industry to receive the “iF Design Award,” one of the world’s top three design awards.
The design section allows users to indirectly experience the vehicle through various image contents of the hydrogen electric tram. It includes a 360-degree exterior view as well as virtual reality (VR) images of the passenger cabin and driver’s compartment.
The technology section introduces detailed elements such as core technical specifications including hydrogen fuel cells, animated explanations of operating principles, vehicle specifications, and efficiency.
A Hyundai Rotem representative said, “We created the website to help anyone easily and conveniently understand the hydrogen electric tram,” adding, “We hope the hydrogen electric tram will become more familiar to citizens.”
Hyundai Motor Group announced its hydrogen value chain business brand “HTWO” at CES 2024, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, last January. The hydrogen electric tram is a key project within the group’s hydrogen brand strategy. Hyundai Rotem plans to build a full lineup of hydrogen-based railway vehicles in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company, which has been conducting hydrogen energy research and development (R&D) for over 30 years.
Hyundai Rotem plans to showcase the hydrogen electric tram not only on the website but also at domestic and international exhibitions. The actual vehicle will be exhibited at Hyundai Rotem’s booth at InnoTrans 2024, the world’s largest railway trade fair held in Berlin, Germany, from the 24th to the 27th. Visitors can also experience the hydrogen electric tram through VR and dioramas at Hyundai Motor Group’s booth at H2 MEET 2024, held from the 25th to the 27th at KINTEX Exhibition Center 1 in Ilsan, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.
