Seongnam City held the 3rd SOLO MON selection event of the year on the 7th at Tap Public Pangyo branch. Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 9th that 24 couples were matched at the third SOLO MON (SOLO MON) selection event held this year on the 7th at Tap Public Pangyo Branch.
With a total of 50 couples (100 people) participating, the couple matching rate for the day was 48%.
The event was held with 100 participants (50 men and 50 women) who overcame a competition rate of 6 to 1.
Participants enjoyed recreation, dating coaching, one-on-one conversations, dinner, couple games, and a wine party, spending time getting to know each other.
Before the event ended, they wrote down up to three preferred partners on a ‘some matching’ sheet.
The city confirmed couples who showed mutual interest and sent the contact information of the other party via text message.
The SOLO MON selection event is a project promoted by Seongnam City in its second year as part of a policy to encourage marriage among unmarried young men and women.
In a total of eight events held?five times last year (99 couples matched out of 230 couples) and three times this year (67 couples matched out of 150 couples)?166 couples (44%) out of 380 couples were matched, and the first and second married couples were born in July and September, respectively.
This event has attracted attention from major media outlets worldwide, including The New York Times in the United States, The Straits Times in Singapore, Reuters in the United Kingdom, and The Boston Globe in the United States, which covered it as a major story.
At the third event, the American media group Bloomberg covered the scene.
Shin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, said, “In South Korea, where the low birthrate problem is a serious social issue, if policies like Seongnam City’s ‘SOLO MON selection’ spread nationwide and provide more opportunities for young people to choose, it will serve as a turning point for a positive change in perceptions regarding marriage and childbirth.”
Meanwhile, the SOLO MON selection event will be held five more times, including on the 29th at an Italian restaurant in Unjung-dong and on October 5th at Jebudo in Hwaseong City.
