Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) recently announced on the 8th that it has finalized 25 projects for the 2025 Resident Participatory Budget and decided to invest 900 million KRW in the budget.

Among the projects to be included in next year's budget, there are a total of 21 general projects, including resident-centered initiatives such as ▲installation of smart warning boards (Cheongpa-dong) ▲environmental improvement of the alternative gymnasium at Yongsan-gu Culture and Sports Center (Wonhyo-ro 1(il)-dong) ▲installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) to prevent illegal parking on the walls of Hyochang Park (Hyochang-dong) ▲replacement of smart shade shelters (Ichon 2(i)-dong) ▲creation of pedestrian-centered streets (Itaewon 1(il)-dong).

The Resident Participatory Budget system is a system that involves residents in the budget process of local governments to enhance transparency and fairness in local financial management and directly reflect projects desired by residents in district administration.

The review was conducted in depth by 29 members of the Resident Participatory Budget Committee, participating in three subcommittees: ▲Administrative Welfare ▲Urban Parks ▲Safety and Construction, to assess the appropriateness of the proposed projects.

Recent projects that received positive responses from residents include ▲Hyochangwon Independence Peace Festival ▲installation of smart warning boards to prevent illegal dumping of garbage ▲repaving of side roads in front of the senior center in Cheongpa 1(il)-dong ▲installation of a book reservation, lending, and return machine at Byeolbat Small Library (Hannam-dong). The district has been operating the related system since 2011 and is promoting a total of 31 Resident Participatory Budget projects this year (25 general projects and 6 event-type projects).

Mayor Park Hee-young said, “Through the Resident Participatory Budget, residents directly propose projects, and the selected projects are reflected in the budget, changing our daily lives. We will strive to reflect them as much as possible in next year’s budget.”

The draft budget for next year’s projects, including the Resident Participatory Budget, will be finalized at the regular session of the Yongsan-gu Council in December this year and will be disclosed through the district’s website. The Resident Participatory Budget Subcommittee was held on the 13th of last month.
