"Create Your Own Garden"... Geumcheon-gu Extends Submission Deadline for Garden Art Contest at Omisaengtae Park

Submission by September 20, Choose from Three Themes to Create Your Own Garden
12 Teams Selected, Winners Awarded District Mayor's Prize and 300,000 KRW Book Gift Certificates

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the "Omi Ecological Park Baek-in Baek Hyanggiwon Citizen Participation Accompanying Garden Art Contest" will be extended until September 20.

Omi Ecological Park is located around Siheung Valley (San 77-1, Siheung 5-dong) and is being developed as an ecological park representing the southwestern area, with a size approximately 2.7 times that of a soccer field (about 18,500㎡).

The garden creation art contest was prepared to allow citizens to directly create and cultivate gardens and interact with nature, providing participants with an opportunity to create creative spaces.

The contest targets gardens of 10㎡ in size within the Baek-in Baek Hyanggiwon of the park, with 12 locations available.

The contest themes reflect the identity, historicity, and symbolism of Geumcheon-gu, and are divided into three categories: the ‘Siheung Haenggung’ garden, which contains the value of Geumcheon-gu’s history and cultural heritage; the ‘Geumyang Japrok’ garden, based on the agricultural book written by Joseon scholar Kang Hee-maeng during his stay in Geumyang; and the ‘Geumcheon-gu’ garden, which captures memories or the future alongside the 30th anniversary of Geumcheon-gu’s establishment.

Eligibility is open to anyone residing in Geumcheon-gu (students and workers located in Geumcheon-gu), with teams composed of 1 to 4 members.

The submission deadline is 4 p.m. on September 20, and completed documents should be submitted via email along with the application form. Submission documents, contest themes, and contest details can be found on the Geumcheon-gu Office website under notices and announcements.

Submitted materials will undergo document screening to select 12 teams. The selected teams will participate in an on-site workshop and, with the help of garden experts, create their gardens by October 18. Garden creation costs will be supported up to a maximum of 2 million KRW.

The 12 teams that complete their gardens will receive the Mayor’s Award along with a 300,000 KRW book and cultural gift certificate.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “The Citizen Participation Accompanying Garden Art Contest is a valuable opportunity to create gardens together with citizens, held for the first time this year. We ask for much interest and participation so that gardens filled with diverse and creative ideas can be created.”

Meanwhile, Omi Ecological Park is preparing facilities such as the two-story Siheung Valley Natural Healing Center, the Mul-eo-gwi Rest Area where two streams converge, a 100-meter-long loess barefoot walking path, a rose garden symbolizing Venus’s love, a fitness center, a healing garden for companion plants, and an urban agriculture experience center.
