On the 6th (local time), the governments of South Korea and the United Kingdom held the 1st Korea-UK Economic and Cybersecurity Dialogue in London, UK, the Presidential Office announced on the 7th.
From the South Korean government, Wang Yoon-jong, the 3rd Deputy Director of the National Security Office, attended, and from the UK government, Matt Collins of the National Security Agency and Jonathan Black, Deputy National Security Advisor, participated.
During the meeting, the two countries discussed strengthening economic security resilience including the protection of democracy, countering overseas false and manipulated information, cybersecurity, supply chains, as well as cooperation in biosecurity and technology, and collaboration on key emerging technologies such as semiconductors, quantum, and satellite navigation.
This meeting was the first to comprehensively address Korea-UK economic security and cybersecurity.
The Presidential Office explained, "Through this, it is expected to firmly strengthen the Korea-UK global strategic partnership, which was elevated during President Yoon Suk-yeol’s state visit to the UK in November last year, and to further solidify future cooperation between the two countries based on the 'Downing Street Agreement.'"
The two countries agreed to hold the next meeting in the second half of next year in Seoul.
