American actress and singer Selena Gomez became a billionaire at the age of 32.
On the 6th (local time), Bloomberg reported that Gomez's net worth was estimated at $1.3 billion (approximately 1.74 trillion KRW), marking her first appearance on the media's billionaire list.
Among Gomez's total assets, 81% is accounted for by her stake in the cosmetics brand 'Rare Beauty.' Gomez participated in the establishment of this cosmetics brand, launched in 2020, and actively promoted it through social media. The brand has gained great popularity among teenagers.
According to market analysis firm PitchBook, Rare Beauty's annual sales reached $350 million (approximately 468.8 billion KRW) as of last year. Bloomberg estimated that Gomez holds a 51% stake in the company based on her key role in its founding and other factors.
In a radio interview last year, Gomez said, "I worked really hard to create a product that was more than just putting my name on it," adding, "I wanted this product to be great and to send the message that makeup should be fun."
Bloomberg compared Gomez's wealth-building process to that of her close friend, pop star Taylor Swift.
While Swift primarily earns huge sums from music copyrights and concert revenues, Gomez accumulates wealth through her influence on social media and various businesses built on that platform.
Gomez currently has 424 million Instagram followers. The only people with more followers than Gomez are soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Gomez debuted at age 7 on a TV children's program, gained popularity as a teenager starring in the Disney Channel sitcom 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' and later pursued a solo singing career, earning two Grammy Award nominations.
Since 2021, she has appeared in the TV comedy-drama series Only Murders in the Building, earning a nomination for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress this year, building a successful career in both acting and music.
