South Korea and the United States held the 1st ROK-US Nuclear Consultative Group Tabletop Exercise (NCG TTS) in Washington DC on June 5-6 (local time), the Ministry of National Defense announced on the 7th.
The Ministry of National Defense stated, "The NCG TTS significantly contributes to the execution of NCG tasks by strengthening the alliance's approach to cooperative policy decisions related to nuclear deterrence and nuclear planning in the event of a potential nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula."
This means that when a crisis such as North Korea's nuclear threat or nuclear use occurs on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea and the US simulated the cooperation process and procedures involved in deterring and responding using nuclear capabilities.
The Ministry of National Defense added, "Through the NCG, South Korea and the US will continue to develop joint exercises and training activities for applying nuclear deterrence on the Korean Peninsula by regularly utilizing TTS and other means."
Additionally, beyond the whole-of-government TTS, the ROK and US plan to continue military-focused Tabletop Exercises (TTX) through the NCG.
