'Geumjatap' in Local Specialty Maesil Sector
Due to Expansion of Production Area Distribution and Continuous Promotion
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that 'Bitgreen Gwangyang Maesil' has won the Grand Prize in the regional specialty Maesil category at the '2024 Korea Consumer Trust Representative Brand Awards' for the 10th consecutive year as of the 5th.
Now in its 18th year, the '2024 Korea Consumer Trust Representative Brand Awards' selects representative brands through a consumer perception survey on brand auxiliary awareness, quality preference and satisfaction, and future usage intention. Afterward, detailed evaluation items such as management strategy, marketing, and finance are added, followed by a final review by a panel of judges to award the prize.

Gwangyang is a warm region with an average annual temperature of around 13 to 14 degrees Celsius, protected from the northwest seasonal winds by Jirisan and Baegunsan Mountains. Additionally, it has the highest amount of sunlight in the country and abundant water resources from the Seomjin River, supporting a mild climate ideal for Maesil cultivation.
The reason Gwangyang Maesil is rich in citric acid, has a strong aroma, and vivid color compared to Maesil from other regions is due to these conditions.
Based on the region's strengths, Gwangyang City registered the Gwangyang Maesil geographical indication No. 36 in 2007, designated the Gwangyang Maesil industrial special zone in 2008, and completed the registration of the Gwangyang Maesil geographical indication collective mark and Bitgreen trademark in 2010.
'Bitgreen Gwangyang Maesil' boasts high quality as it is cultivated with technology accumulated over decades under optimal climate conditions. It is analyzed that consumers chose Gwangyang Maesil as the best Maesil nationwide due to expanded local distribution and various promotional efforts.
To foster the high-quality Maesil industry, Gwangyang City is implementing various policy projects including ▲support for powered pruning shears ▲support for seed separators for jangajji production ▲distribution of sorting machines ▲support for pruning and trimming labor ▲support for cold storage facilities ▲support for direct transaction packaging materials ▲purchase support for defective Maesil ▲and subsidies for purchasing Gwangyang Maesil food raw materials.
Jung In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, said, “This achievement of Bitgreen Gwangyang Maesil is thanks to the efforts of farmers and those who worked hard to secure distribution channels and promote the brand,” and added, “Gwangyang City will continue to do its best to support production and distribution to maintain the reputation and trust of Gwangyang Maesil.”
