Gijang County Leads Gender Equality... Holds 'Gender Equality Week Ceremony and Harmony Sports Event'

Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) held the '2024 Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony and Harmony Sports Festival' at Gijang-gun World Cup Village on the 5th in celebration of Gender Equality Week.

This event was organized by the Gijang-gun Women's Association Council (President Jo Bokim) and sponsored by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters.

With over 700 participants, including members of women's organizations and heads of major institutions and organizations in Gijang-gun, the event was successfully held under the slogan 'A Gender-Equal Society Where We Work and Care Together.'

Before the main event began, all members of the women's organizations chanted slogans and performed a demonstration to attract the KTX-Eum stop to Gijang-gun. The first part of the event included an awards ceremony for outstanding organizations, exemplary couples, and model volunteers who contributed to spreading the culture of gender equality.

The second part featured a harmony festival with sports events and a singing contest in which participants took part together. Members of 12 women's organizations joined in various sports competitions such as Shoe Archery, Ball Rolling, and Cooperative Ball Bouncing. The singing contest drew enthusiastic responses as participants showcased their well-honed singing skills.

Additionally, there were various side events such as a wish bracelet-making experience by the Gijang-gun Volunteer Center, employment and entrepreneurship counseling for middle-aged and older women, and booths for depression screening and counseling.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, said, "I hope this Gender Equality Week event will further foster awareness of gender equality in the region," and promised, "Gijang-gun will take the lead in realizing a gender-equal society so that all residents receive equal treatment in every area of home and society."
