The agreement, attended by Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang-seon and Korea Automotive Technology Institute President Na Seung-sik, follows the enforcement of the Special Act on the Promotion of Transition and Ecosystem Development of Future Automobile Parts Industry in July. It aims to secure leadership in the future automobile industry through inter-agency cooperation.
According to the MOU, the two organizations will collaborate to create an ecosystem for the future automobile industry by ▲promoting cooperative projects ▲supporting technology development and business for parts companies ▲building industrial networks ▲supporting workforce training. Additionally, for the 'Future Automobile Electronic Parts Integrated Performance Evaluation Center' to be established in Pyeongtaek, the city will provide administrative and financial support, while the institute will assist local parts companies in testing and evaluation. The agreement also includes cooperation on operating educational programs if a science high school is established in southern Gyeonggi.
Mayor Jeong said, "Pyeongtaek already has an environment for the future automobile industry, centered around Pyeongtaek Port, with three completed car manufacturers, about 250 automobile-related companies in the region, and industries such as semiconductors and hydrogen." He added, "We will strive to become the center of the future automobile industry through solid cooperation with the institute." President Na also responded, "We will do our best to create a sound future automobile ecosystem by leveraging the synergy of the capabilities held by both organizations."
Meanwhile, the city plans to launch a council of future automobile-related companies next month and hold an expert conference.
