Busan Port Authority (BPA) has secured a logistics center for Korean companies at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in the United States, and held an opening ceremony on September 5th local time.
Busan Port Authority (BPA) has opened a logistics center for Korean companies at the LA/LB ports in the United States.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kwon Sunghwan, Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles, Noel Hasegawa, Deputy Executive Director of the Port of Long Beach, Park Geunhyeong, Director of the KOTRA Los Angeles Trade Center, as well as over 150 representatives from local logistics companies and shipping lines.
Kang Junseok, President of BPA, giving a greeting speech at the logistics center opening ceremony on September 5 local time.
Busan Port Authority, in cooperation with Jusung C&AIR, a specialized international logistics company in the Americas, has established a public-private joint venture for integrated logistics operations in the Carson area of LA and Long Beach. The center will begin full-scale operations starting with the opening ceremony, aiming to enhance the export competitiveness of Korean companies in the Americas and respond to the reorganization of the global logistics supply chain.
The establishment of this joint venture is expected to serve as a successful example of public-private collaboration, combining the expertise of a public port operating agency with the know-how of a logistics company to create synergy.
The LA and Long Beach logistics center has a warehouse area of 8,514 square meters (total site area of 17,035 square meters), and has already started receiving K-beauty cosmetics and electronic components, signaling a promising start.
In addition, by 2025, with the construction of cold and refrigerated cargo facilities, the center is expected to handle K-food products, which have recently gained popularity in the US, further expanding its role as an integrated logistics hub.
Furthermore, the LA and Long Beach logistics center is scheduled to be designated as an overseas joint logistics center by KOTRA. Through KOTRA's established network, the two organizations plan to continue their cooperation to provide differentiated logistics services to small and medium-sized enterprises that find it difficult to independently secure logistics centers overseas.
Kwon Sunghwan, Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles, stated in his congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony, "The LA and Long Beach logistics center is not only a place for storing and delivering products, but is also expected to become a key location where our companies can fully demonstrate their innovative ideas and outstanding capabilities."
Park Jinsu, CEO of Jusung C&AIR, a shareholder of the joint venture, said, "Based on our cooperation with Busan Port Authority, we hope to continue working together so that Korean small and medium-sized enterprises can successfully enter the US market."
Kang Junseok, President of BPA, stated, "The LA and Long Beach logistics center is of great significance as Busan Port Authority's fourth overseas logistics base following the Netherlands, Spain, and Indonesia, and as the first overseas logistics supply chain secured in the United States by a public institution. We will continue our efforts to provide stable logistics supply chains for our export companies entering the US market."
