Offending Teacher: "I Wish Only I Had Been Scolded..."
A kindergarten teacher in Daegu was found to have continuously abused 6-year-old children by pushing them and hitting their chests, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 5th, JTBC reported, "Kindergarten teacher A in Daegu was caught abusing a 6-year-old student on closed-circuit television (CCTV)." According to the CCTV footage shown in the report, A grabbed the arm of a child who was sitting still, pulled the child up, pushed the child into a corner, and threw them onto the floor. The child nearly hit their head on a shelf, but A paid no attention and also struck the child's chest. The child staggered and lost balance, eventually falling down.
The victim's parent said, "When I saw the (CCTV), I blamed myself," adding, "'Why didn’t I know? How scared must they have been not to tell me?'... I felt very sorry." The victim said, "My heart, the middle of my heart, felt like it was really pierced," and "They kept hitting me with their fist like this, I really thought the fist was going to come out behind my back."
Regarding this, teacher A explained, "After hearing that the child was scolded during gym class, since they are a friend in my class, I wanted only to be the one to scold them, so I pushed OO’s chest with my hand," adding, "I think it happened once or twice." However, it is also known that A not only abused the children but also threatened them by saying, "I will watch everything with the camera even after you go home."
The kindergarten stated, "We did not participate in or neglect the abuse and are doing our best to prevent recurrence."
Netizens who learned of the incident reacted with comments such as, "People who bully powerless children deserve divine punishment," "The kindergarten should be shut down immediately," "Not only hitting defenseless young children but also throwing them around?how can they still be a teacher?" and "Childhood memories last a lifetime; I worry about the trauma."
Meanwhile, the police are expanding their investigation to determine if there are more victims beyond the four confirmed on the CCTV.
