Korea Investment Trust Management announced on the 6th that the Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor TOP10 (H) fund ranked first in net asset value growth among overseas equity public funds excluding exchange-traded funds (ETFs) since the beginning of the year.
As of the 5th, the net asset value of the Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor TOP10 (H) fund increased by 82.3 billion KRW since the beginning of the year, ranking first in net asset value growth among overseas equity public funds. The fund grew from 16.3 billion KRW at the end of last year to 98.6 billion KRW, representing a 504.91% increase. This growth far outpaced the overall inflow into overseas equity public funds, which rose by 23.80% from 38.7121 trillion KRW to 47.9263 trillion KRW since the start of the year.
The Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor TOP10 fund series consists of hedged (H), unhedged (UH), and US dollar (USD) types. The unhedged Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor (UH) fund also saw a net asset value increase of 46.5 billion KRW since the beginning of the year, placing it among the top funds in overseas equity net asset growth.
The rapid growth of the Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor TOP10 (H) fund is attributed to investors' sustained interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, as well as the fund’s strong performance. The fund posted a 6-month return of 2.27% and a year-to-date return of 16.79%, outperforming the average returns of the same category (overseas equity) which were 2.10% and 7.75%, respectively. The fund’s 1-year return and return since its initial launch in March last year were 26.67% and 37.13%, respectively.
The Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor TOP10 (H) fund focuses on investing in 10 leading companies driving the AI and semiconductor industries domestically and internationally. The fund’s core investment strategy is “winner-takes-all,” selecting companies that hold monopolistic leadership in each sub-sector of the AI and semiconductor industries. The selection process incorporates traditional corporate evaluation factors as well as proprietary analysis of market share in sub-sectors, patented technologies, corporate partnerships, and other leadership factors within the field. The fund also includes some potential candidates to differentiate the product.
Korea Investment Trust Management’s public funds ranked two products among the top 10 in net asset value growth for all public funds last month. The Korea Investment US Long-Term Treasury (H) and Korea Investment Credit Focus ESG funds increased their net asset values by 236.8 billion KRW and 184.7 billion KRW, respectively, in August, ranking 5th and 7th. Notably, the Korea Investment US Long-Term Treasury (H) fund ranked first among overseas bond public funds.
Kim Hyuntae, Head of Global Quantitative Management at Korea Investment Trust Management, said, “The core investment philosophy of the Korea Investment Global AI & Semiconductor TOP10 (H) fund, winner-takes-all, resonated with investors, which was a key factor in the net asset value growth. In this sector, it is very difficult for the second place to surpass the first, and the winner-takes-all centered on big tech companies possessing the three core elements of AI?algorithms, data, and semiconductor technology?is expected to continue long-term.”
