A base supporting the entry of Korean system semiconductor companies into the U.S. market has been established in San Jose, California.
On the 5th (local time), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 6th that it held the opening ceremony of the "Korea-U.S. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Semiconductor Innovation Center" (K-ASIC) in San Jose, USA. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, resident companies of the Innovation Center, semiconductor companies operating locally, U.S. semiconductor companies, Stanford University, and other key companies and institutions related to semiconductors from both countries.
Five companies?Alpha Solutions, Sapien Semiconductor, Mobilint, HyperExcel, and SemiFive?have moved into the Innovation Center, and about 20 joint membership companies will receive various services provided by the center.
The Innovation Center comprehensively supports Korean semiconductor-related companies' entry into the U.S. market through demand-linked technology development, verification and certification consulting, promotion, and networking. The U.S. is a key market accounting for about 70% of the global system semiconductor market, and for domestic fabless companies (semiconductor design specialists), intellectual property (IP), and design houses to grow into global companies, entry into the U.S. market is essential.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy decided to establish the Innovation Center in San Jose, where global semiconductor companies are concentrated, to provide close support. This includes discovering items for technology development, expert group consulting, providing market and technology trend information, verifying the performance of developed products, supporting the production of demo boards for promotion to demand companies, and providing infrastructure and networking support.
