'Mapo Pet Camping Site' Opens in September

Mapo-gu, ranked number one in pet-friendly areas (Mayor Park Kang-su), has established the 'Mapo Pet Camping Site' spanning 286㎡ in Nanji Hangang Park and officially opened it in September for full operation.

While promoting the 'Hidden Mapo Public Land Discovery' initiative for residents' welfare, Mapo-gu found a riverbed site owned by the district within Nanji Hangang Park suitable for a camping site.

Along with the rapid progress of the River Act amendment, the pet camping site was created here.

Fitting the theme of urban camping, the camping site features decks where dogs and families with dogs can camp while overlooking the Han River. Additionally, it includes a dog agility course, picnic zone, drinking fountains, pet shower rooms, and drying rooms.

Furthermore, Mapo-gu has equipped camping tools and tents available for residents to rent, allowing them to enjoy leisure time by the Han River.

To ensure smooth operation and improve the site, Mapo-gu recruited a promotional team in August and conducted a pilot operation. During the pilot period, a total of 174 people used the camping site, and in a survey conducted with 76 of them, 91% of respondents expressed very satisfied (74%) or satisfied (17%) opinions, citing spacious and convenient facilities and views of the Han River as reasons.

Accordingly, Mapo-gu completed the final facility inspection and officially opened the camping site on September 3.

To celebrate the official opening, Mapo-gu prepared events in September such as 'Pet Behavior Correction Counseling' and 'Petiquette Education.' Professional instructors were invited for the events. The instructors will enhance visitors' understanding of their dogs' behavioral issues and educate them on proper correction methods.

Reservations for using the camping site can be made online through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Service Reservation System. Visitors without reservations can freely use the picnic zone on the lawn.

Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “As pets have become family, friends, and companions, administrative services must accompany this change. Mapo-gu will actively implement meticulous and animal-friendly policies to create a city where pets and people live well together.”
