According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 4th (local time), SakanaAI announced that it has raised over $100 million from a group of investors including NVIDIA, and will collaborate with NVIDIA to conduct AI research and build data centers in Japan. The exact amount of NVIDIA's investment has not been disclosed.

SakanaAI is a startup founded in Japan last July by AI researchers formerly from Google in the United States. The market expects it to soon become a unicorn company (a privately held startup valued at over $1 billion).

SakanaAI is researching technology that automates the development of foundational AI models based on ideas inspired by nature. In its early-stage fundraising, it received investments from U.S. venture capital firms such as New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Khosla Ventures, and Lux Capital. In January of this year, it also raised $30 million in funding led by Lux Capital.

Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, said in a statement, "The SakanaAI team is contributing to the popularization of AI in Japan by developing cutting-edge foundational models through NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform and accelerating the pace of scientific discovery."
