"Drunk and Took It Out by Mistake" Explanation
It has been revealed that two Korean tourists were arrested for stealing a bag containing more than 20 million won in cash in Goreme, Cappadocia, a tourist destination in Turkey.
According to reports from Turkish news agency DHA and other foreign media on the 4th (local time), at around 9:30 p.m. on the 27th of last month, Albanian tourist Shabon Lijeni lost a bag containing 22 million won in cash at a cafe in Goreme, Nevsehir Province.
At the time, Lijeni had left the cafe after having coffee with relatives, only to realize later that she had left without her bag. However, when she returned to the cafe, the bag was already missing. Inside Lijeni’s bag were identification cards, credit cards, 1,500 Australian dollars (about 1.35 million won), 12,100 pounds (about 21.26 million won), and a total of approximately 22 million won in cash.
Lijeni immediately informed the cafe staff about the lost bag, and the staff reported it to the police. Upon receiving the report, Turkish police analyzed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage installed inside the cafe and captured footage of two women taking the bag that was left on the table.
The video shows the women sitting facing each other at the table after Lijeni’s group left, looking around briefly, then picking up the bag hanging on a chair and leaving the spot.
Based on the CCTV analysis, the police identified two Koreans as suspects and went to the accommodation near where they were staying to arrest them. The police also seized Lijeni’s bag from the accommodation.
The Korean tourists reportedly explained that they mistakenly took the bag while intoxicated. They returned the bag to Lijeni and were released.
