Loud Exchanges Between Ruling and Opposition Parties During Choo Kyung-ho's Speech
Woo Won-sik Interrupts Choo's Speech and Urges Careful Listening
"Still, it's regrettable that people who are well-educated and hold positions representing the people fight so much."
Kim, a third-year student at Girin Middle School in Inje-gun, Gangwon-do, shared his thoughts with an Asia Economy reporter at the National Assembly on the 5th, right after the floor leader of the People Power Party, Choo Kyung-ho, delivered his negotiation group representative speech. Kim also criticized the loud exchanges between ruling and opposition party members during Choo's speech, saying, "I think it would be better if the ruling and opposition parties cooperated rather than engaging in negativity to lead the people's livelihood."
Not only students from Girin Middle School, who came on a group tour arranged by the Legislative Training Institute, but also students from Gajang Elementary School in Seo-gu, Daejeon, and members of the Development Committee of Songsan-myeon, Dangjin-si, Chungnam, as well as ordinary citizens, participated as audience members in the National Assembly to watch Choo's speech. Mr. Jang (70, male) from Dalseong-gun, Daegu, said, "I watched Choo's speech well," but expressed regret, saying, "It was pathetic to see the ruling and opposition members fighting. They should know how to acknowledge when something is done well."
During Choo's speech, Democratic Party members shouted complaints such as "You should have won the general election," "What kind of speech is this," and "Minister causing tax revenue shortfall." Ruling party members applauded Choo while countering the opposition members with remarks like "Enough already," vividly showing the political strife. During the previous day's negotiation group representative speech by floor leader Park, ruling party members strongly opposed with comments like "That's too much," "Pot calling the kettle black," and "What are you doing while saying you want cooperation?"

Speaker Woo Won-shik temporarily halted Choo's speech as the loud exchanges between ruling and opposition members continued, requesting, "The people are all watching, and there are many audience members watching," and "Even if views differ, please listen attentively," creating an awkward situation.
Earlier, in his representative speech, Choo opened fire on the Democratic Party, which raised various suspicions such as government personnel impeachment, Fukushima contaminated water, and martial law preparations, saying, "If impeachment is to be done, shouldn't it be against those forces who plunge the Republic of Korea into confusion and division with such false rumors?" This was a direct criticism of Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae's previous day's negotiation group representative speech, which hinted at impeachment by mentioning 'President Yoon Seok-yeol's dictatorship' and 'unfortunate precedents.'
Choo continued, "When the Democratic Party starts rumor-mongering, some broadcasts controlled by left-wing forces become loudspeakers and spread it widely, and the damage falls squarely on the people," he claimed. He also mentioned the Democratic Party as being behind various rumors raised during the mad cow disease crisis related to U.S. beef, the THAAD deployment, and the Sewol ferry disaster, including electromagnetic wave rumors and submarine sinking theories.
Choo particularly raised his voice, calling it 'legislative dictatorship,' saying, "The Democratic Party filed an impeachment motion against the prosecutors investigating Representative Lee Jae-myung. This is an unprecedented judicial manipulation that shakes the rule of law from its foundation, a legislative outrage where a criminal suspect tries to impeach the investigating prosecutors." Regarding Representative Lee, he said, "Let the Democratic Party release him from the shackles of a shield party. He should respond confidently to the investigation and trial on a personal level," and pointed out, "Instead, the Democratic Party must escape the quagmire of the shield party captured for the sake of just one person, Representative Lee."
