Expected to Serve as a Catalyst for Strengthening Battery Safety
The Korea Battery Industry Association welcomed the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's decision to increase the budget for supporting the battery industry in 2025.
On the 5th, the association stated, "The growth rate of the battery industry is declining due to the global economic slowdown and the electric vehicle chasm," adding, "Amid this situation, the significant increase in the budget for next-generation battery technology development, specialized complex infrastructure construction, and battery workforce training will contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the battery industry and expanding the industrial ecosystem."
The association said, "We will now be able to receive support for building infrastructure such as power and salt treatment, which has been requested by the battery materials industry including cathode materials," and added, "Through investment in internalizing the battery supply chain for precursors, anode materials, and critical minerals that have been dependent on China, positive effects are expected in terms of supply chain security."
It continued, "Early commercialization of next-generation batteries is expected through the development of large-area and mass production technologies to secure high-performance and high-safety next-generation battery technologies," and "Standardization of technology for fire detection and control systems in battery manufacturers will also help prevent fires and safety accidents in advance."
The association said, "It is expected that the expansion of field-oriented talent can be achieved through the development of systematic education programs reflecting the convergent and complex characteristics of the battery industry," and added, "This reflects the core contents of the battery industry's proposals submitted to the government last year, which will greatly support the promotion of private-sector-led post-use battery industrialization and the enhancement of safety in the post-use battery market."
